Young Photographer

Last weekend my daughter and her family met us in Uncertain, Texas for the weekend.  We had a great time at Caddo Lake, taking a boat tour of the lake.  We spent Sunday afternoon in Jefferson, Texas attending the Mardi Gras parade.  While some of our group were shopping the antique stores in Jefferson, the rest of us took a walk on the nature trail along Big Cypress Bayou.

My seven year old grand daughter loves to take photos with my camera. As we were walking on the nature trail along Big Cypress Bayou I let her use my camera. I am a proud Papa, but I really think she has an eye for photography. All of the photos in this post were taken by her.

I can't wait to see more work from this budding photographer.  I think she has a great future.

Autumn

A is for Autumn.  I really love Autumn and how beautiful  Autumn is. I also like Fall and the colorful foliage. My oldest granddaughter is named Autumn and she is beautiful!

As beautiful as my granddaughter Autumn is, this post is to showcase the beauty of Autumn (the season).  The weather this past week has been extremely hot, with temperatures in the high 90's and even passing the 100 degree mark one day.  The hot weather makes me look forward to Autumn, when things start cooling off.  Autumn is also a very colorful time here in Western Arkansas.  Here are a few photos I have taken of the fall colors over the past few years.













God can make even a junkyard beautiful. I took these photos behind my shop where we keep the vehicles that some people consider junk.









The Kansas City Southern railroad tracks run right behind my shop. I climbed up to the tracks to take these photos.












I'm looking forward to Autumn this year so I can take some more colorful photos!

Ice

The ABC Wednesday Meme is a fun way to see some great blogs. This week the letter is "I". I is for ice. Ice can beautiful and it can be deadly.

Christmas Day 2000 Polk County and a lot of the surrounding area experienced a significant ice storm.  We lost more than ten trees, and one neighbor had their chimney knocked off of their house by a falling tree while another neighbor had a limb go through their roof and was through the ceiling of their bedroom.  We were without power for 6 days and we had friends who lived on a country road who were without power for 23 days.  Ice can be very powerful.

Ice can also be quite beautiful.  Here are a few ice pictures I have taken over the past few years.





















As beautiful as ice can be, I much prefer spring!

William Rainey Photography Show

Local Mena photographer, William Rainey, is being featured at the Mena Art Gallery in a photography show from January 2nd - February 1st. My wife and I attended the reception this afternoon.

William specializes in capturing the beautiful Arkansas outdoors.  He says of his passion for photography, “It allows me to capture the natural beauty of Arkansas and share it with others. Now when I go on an outdoor adventure, I can capture what I see and bring it back with me. I don't have to rely on words to tell others what I experienced, I can show them.”
