At The Zoo
This weekend we took a friend to the airport in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While we were in Tulsa we decided to go to the zoo. It was a perfect autumn day with lovely sunshine but not too hot.
While we were walking along a shortcut we heard some loud munching and went to investigate. There we found the Rhino's eating the vegetation along the walkway. They were so close that we could have reached out and touched them. (But we didn't.) They seemed as intrigued with us as we were with them. I was surprised that the only thing between us was a small low fence. Our up close and personal encounter with the Rhino's was the highlight of our day.
We enjoyed our day at the zoo a lot. As we watched all of the families there with there children it made us wish we were there with our grandchildren. Maybe sometime soon we will be able to spend a day with our grandchildren at the zoo!
Very cool ! The weekend train driver at the zoo was up here in North Dakota at the sugar beet harvest with us. He was a ground crew member on our piler. His name is Mitch. He has a loud booming voice and a monster handlebar mustache. Bet he looks cool when he is in period attire and operating the train.
ReplyDeleteWe rode the train. It was great. We didn't see the driver.
ReplyDeleteI just love goin' to the zoo. I never have to look too far for an excuse with the eight grandkiddos.
ReplyDeleteYou pics of the zoo trip was just marvelous but baby oh baby...I just met that precious little Elizabeth...what a perfect little bundle of love she is! You are blessed!!! :o)
Ya'll have the best bright and beautiful 'fall' day!!!
I much prefer you autumn to ours! You have found just the place for a man who loves to take photos.
ReplyDeleteSome great shots there Richie. Can't believe how close you were. Do so love the open air enclosures for the animals as opposed to the cages of yesteryear. We have come a long way as keepers.
ReplyDeleteKids love zoos. Used to bring my daughter to every zoo in every place we visited...and she's all grown up now. I guess like you, I am hoping that one day, I will be able to bring my grandchildren there...
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos, Rich!!! I love the shots of the hippos...and terrific bat photo!!! I'm so glad you went because I got to enjoy the visit vicariously!!! Have a wonderful week, my friend!! Cheers! Janine
ReplyDeleteGosh, I haven't been to the zoo in ages. Takes me back to when I used to take my two boys -- the train was always a big hit. I don't know about that rhino -- it looks as if it could just step over that fence. You are much braver than I! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou've got some good-looking critters at your zoo! Looks like a gorgeous day for it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasant side trip. I didn't know Tulsa had such a nice zoo. Those rhinos were really at close quarters; nice shots! I can almost smell them from here. :)
ReplyDeleteI like zoos if they are well maintained and the animals in good condition. Have to admit, though, that I haven't been to the Little Rock zoo since my grandchildren were pre-schoolers -- and that's been a while.
Kaishon's most favorite place is the zoo. He would go every day if he could. : )
