Over 600 homes were damaged Thursday night when a F3 Tornado, 136-165 mph winds, hit Mena devastating a 25 block area. 100 homes were totally destroyed and over 600 damaged.
The sheer magnitude of the devastation is stunning! Thank you for the careful, photographic record...I am an educated prayer warrior...my heart is with you.~Janine
I will be praying for those poor people. Thanks for the photos -- I hadn't heard about this. Tornados are one thing I don't miss about living in the US!
Is it not astounding to see the bright blue sky on most of your pictures? And probably birds are singing too. So, everything in the sky is sweet. But the bitterness on the ground will make remember that this bad happening came from the sky.
This is really really sad to see... how devastating nature can be at times. It just doesn't make sense... prayers continue for all those affected by this horrible disaster.
The top picture in this post was the house my grandparents lived in. I was shocked to see it in the paper yesterday, then circulating on the internet. I spent a lot of time in that house... weekends, holidays, summer vacations. Lots of memories. I'll be visiting Mena again this summer, and I know it will be a totally different town from the last time I was there.
I'm so sorry for all of you who live there and have to deal with this devastation.
The sheer devistation is unbelievable. My prayers are with all of these families trying to recover. My husband is an AEP/SWEPCO employee in east Texas. He is up there with you all helping to restore power. I try to look at what you all are going through when I want him to hurry up and come home. I miss him but I know he would not want to be anywhere else. My prayers are with you all, as well as the power crews.
How heart breaking to see Mena damaged. My prayer and thoughts go out to the town of Mena. I love you town as I lived there from 1962 thru 1964. 1st out on Hwy 8 near the lake and then moved to town on the corner of 9th and Hickory in the old 2 story victorian.(is it still standing)please let me know if any one has any info.
