Today is my Daddy's 77th birthday. He was born in Kansas on the hottest day ever recorded in the state. The official weather service temperature in Fredonia, Kansas on July 18, 1936 was 121 degrees. He was born just a few miles away. I have heard stories from my grandmother about how they had to keep wetting sheets with water and drape them over the crib to try and keep him cool.
In honor of Daddy's birthday here are a few photos of him over the years.
Happy Birthday Daddy!!
Oh Gosh! What a nice set of pics. I hope you make a collage and a poster of them.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY !! to your Dad!!
Great birthday tribute to your Daddy Richie. Those photos are fantastic. And 121 degrees? I can't imagine. I will try not to whine when it gets a tad above 90. Is that a photo of him wearing a Japanese emperor's traditional clothing? I'm thinking the Mikado maybe or some other role on stage? Please wish your Daddy a happy birthday from me. And thank you for stopping by and identifying that beautiful old classic car I took a photo of.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely birthday gift to you dad! I love all the old photos...121 degrees, wow! Your grandmother must have been a real trooper, can't imagine being pregnant in that heat!
ReplyDeleteRichie, what a truly wonderful tribute to your father! And to hold such photos so that you may pass them on from generation to generation, that's amazing. I cannot believe that temperature, and here I'm whining about 90 F... WOW... here's wishing your father a happy birthday... he is a handsome man.
